The series has been years in the making

Looks like we're going to be seeing a hell of a lot more of Dubliner Barry Keoghan over the coming years, as his new pilot for 'Y: The Last Man' has been given a full TV series.

'Y: The Last Man' has been picked up by US cable network known for its science-fiction series, FX. Our own Barry Keoghan plays the lead character in the series, and happily tweeted the news on his Twitter page, saying "#YTheLastMan COMING SOON..."

The series, which will see Keoghan joining forces with Diane Lane ('House Of Cards' and 'Justice League'), in an adaptation of a critically-acclaimed post-apocalyptic comic-book series from Brian K. Vaughan. The comic book series will follow Keoghan's character Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand in a world that has been plunged into absolute chaos.

All living mammals with a Y chromosome (i.e. all men) die - leaving females to be the only living mammals in the world. Except that is, for Yorick and his monkey. The escape artist makes it his duty to find out what the hell happened.

Showrunner Michael Green ('Blade Runner 2049' and 'Logan') will be joined by Aïda Mashaka Croal ('Luke Cage'), both serving as executive producers also. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson ('American Crime Story') and author Vaughan have developed the series.

Barry Keoghan, who we first noticed on the RTE series 'Love/Hate' is destined to be one of Hollywood's elite. Here's hoping the series will be an interesting watch, and we see Keoghan star in it for years to come.

The full series of 'Y: The Last Man' is set to premiere next year, in 2020.
