She is excited by the possibility of working with 'Black Panther' director Ryan Coogler
She has played countless roles since her breakthrough in the 1990s - from Margaret Thatcher to sex therapist Jean Milburn, and most recently, journalist Emily Maitland in 'Scoop'.
However, one character that Gillian Anderson will forever be associated with is FBI agent Dana Scully.
Anderson played Scully, of course, in 'The X Files' from 1993 to 2002, and again in 2016 and 2018 - and now that there's a reboot of the iconic show allegedly in the works with Ryan Coogler ('Creed', 'Black Panther') behind it, chatter has once again started up about the actress's potential involvement.
“It’s so funny because for most of my life, since I have finished The X-Files, every interview I do, people have asked and the answer has always been, ‘Nope, not going to happen, not going to happen'," Anderson said in an interview on The Today Show. "Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther - brilliant, brilliant director - has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it, and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen."
She added: "Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something."
Coogler's most recent film, 'Wakanda Forever', earned five Oscar nominations.
Anderson's co-star David Duchovny, meanwhile, has continued working in TV and film, although nothing he has done since 'The X Files' has matched its success.
Make it happen, TV gods!
