Did the best overall baker win, or just the best in the final?
Well, that's it done and (sugar)-dusted for another year. (Spoilers ahead, btw.)
'The Great British Bake Off' concluded last night, but not without a bit of drama in the kitchen.
David was crowned winner after undoubtedly being the most consistent baker in the tent during the final. Steph, meanwhile, had an absolute nightmare in pretty much every challenge, despite arguably being the best overall baker. And then Alice almost had a nervous breakdown when she heard that her parents' flight back from a wedding in Ireland was cancelled.
The general consensus on Twitter seemed to be that although no one could begrudge David his win, Steph (who was Star Baker multiple times across the series) was robbed.
Here are the best reactions to the whole shebang, as overheard on Twitter...

I’ve never been so gutted for one of the bakers as I was for Steff in the final - the most consistent baker in the series - but everything that could go wrong, went wrong in the final 😢 I might have become too emotionally invested in the series 😅 #GBBOFinal #GBBO2019

When one of the best bakers ever doesn’t win @BritishBakeOff then what’s the point 🤷🏻♂️ Hope Steph goes on and becomes the star from the show with all the top offers and top tv appearances and hopefully her own show. Couldn’t care less about David what a disappointment. #GBBOFinal

Meanwhile, Michael seemed to basically meet up with everyone after the show finished...
That ending was basically ‘the many adventures of Michael visiting other contestants’ (which I would very much watch btw) #GBBOFinal #gbbo

Michael truly out-Michaeled himself by appearing in every bloody photo of the What They've Been Up To After Filming montage. #GBBO #GBBOFinal

Same time, same place, next year?
