Dark, Mindy Kaling. That's... dark.
Forget Jim and Pam from 'The US Office' - the most entertaining couple was undoubtedly Ryan and Kelly, played brilliantly by BJ Novak and Mindy Kaling.
Never mind that they were both psychopathic narcissists who just seemed to bring out the worst in each other, the fact that they had some of the best lines and scenes in the series just tells you that the writers had a ball crafting them for them.
Mindy Kaling, who played Kelly, also served as a writer along with BJ Novak for a number of episodes through the 'US Office', and like just about every member of the cast, has been quizzed regarding a possible reboot / reunion series.
When asked where she thinks Kelly Kapoor is nowadays, Kaling had an answer that's dark - but also makes sense for that character. "There’s not an insignificant part of me that thinks that Kelly might be in jail; a crime of passion."
As Kaling told Variety, "(the) character just kept getting a little bit more and more unhinged. I don’t want to say that she murdered Ryan but like I’m also not convinced that he’s still alive in the world of 'The Office'."
The final episode of 'The Office' saw Ryan and Kelly meet up and Dwight and Angela's wedding after a year or so apart, and instantly fall into each other's arms with Kelly basically abandoning her child, Drake, in the process. So, yeah, if you're doing that, then eventually murdering Ryan kind of makes sense.
In fact, that's actually the perfect way to bring the characters back together - basically have them being interviewed on camera, 'True Detective'-style, about the murder of Ryan and Michael just crying constantly about it.
This thing just writes itself, basically.
