When Drew Barrymore answered that infamous phone call all the way back in 1996, little did she or Wes Craven know that it would be the start of something bloody and beautiful. Almost 20 years and four films later, Craven's most famous creation is coming to the small screen.
Yup, that's right, MTV has announced that an order's been put in with Dimeson Film for a Scream TV pilot. It's understood to be about 60 minutes long, and they're even in talks with Craven himself, in the hopes of getting him on board to direct. It will be interesting to see what Wes has to say, given that he already said there would not be a fifth Scream film coming our way. In fairness though, we really can't imagine anyone else taking the helm of the slasher franchise.Tread carefully MTV, for you tread on many a Scream fan's dreams.
There's no word on a plot for the pilot just yet, or indeed a writer, but we think it's pretty safe to say we won't be seeing Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette reuniting should it nab a series. Unless, that is, they're in dire need of a bit of cash and/or exposure. And if you're wondering why Drew looks so happy in that there photo, it's because MTV also took the time to announce that Snooki and JWoww would be returning for a third series of their self-titled reality show.
Yeah, we'd take the slasher over them any day ourselves...
