A brand new sitcom set in Northern Ireland during the 90s is set to hit TV screens in the new year, and it looks very funny.
The show is called Derry Girls and it is set during the Troubles era as four teenagers – Erin and her friends Orla, Clare, and Michelle – go through the trials of adolescence at the same time as different pop culture phenomena influence their lives.
Tommy Tiernan, Tara Lynne O’Neill and GOT star Ian McElhinney play some of the older cast members while the teens are played by Derry and Donegal-based actress Saoirse Jackson, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Nicola Coughlan and Louisa Harland.
Filmed in Derry and Belfast, Derry Girls is the brainchild of none other than Lisa McGee who was also the creator of hit RTE series Raw. Judging from the trailer, we have high hopes for this one.
Derry Girls debuts on Channel 4 on Thursday, January 4 at 10pm.
