The first episode of RTE's new three part drama based on the days of Charle Haughey's political power proved divisive amongst viewers on Sunday night. Some were hooked from the start and enjoyed watching the controversial figure brought back to life via Aidan Gillen, others, well others thought it was just a bit crap really. Like House of Cards meets Scrap Saturday - but not half as good as either of them.
Needless to say almost three quarters of a million of us watched it all the same. It will be interesting to see if episode two brings in as many viewers, although they may watch just to see a younger version of the man who Haughey himself described as 'the most devious, and the most cunning of them all'.
Yep, Bertie Ahern will feature in this episode as you will see from the trailer below, when he arrives in with a big mop of hair on him to tell Littlefinger, sorry Charlie, that the opposition has lodged a no confidence motion against him.
As well as his good self, Elmo from Love/Hate makes an appearance! Laurence Kinlan joins all the rest of his Love/Hate mates in the cast as the famous Independent TD Tony Gregory. And not a garden gnome in sight either.
Twitter's reaction to the first episode of Charlie was fairly spot on
