'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer makes his return to TV in Marvel and Fox's first attempt at bringing mutants to the small screen in live action.
Helmed by many time 'X-Men' director Bryan Singer and exec-produced by a plethora of Marvel and X-Men veterans, the action-adventure drama is a family affair mixed up with the mutant world that audiences will be familiar with from the X-Men franchise.
The series follows suburban couple Reed and Caitlin Strucker (Moyer and 'Angel'/'Person of Interest' star Amy Acker) whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
There's plenty of references to the X-Men and their sometimes enemies the Brotherhood as well as lots of teenagers showing off their super powers while being chased by government forces so familiar territory really. Hopefully with the production team involved, which includes Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Jeoh Loeb, this will be more 'Jessica Jones' than 'Heroes'.
'The Gifted' is set to air on Fox this autumn.
