Cuddle up this weekend with a glass of your favourite wine and some lovable TV picks
Valentine's weekend is here if you can believe it, and with it comes a shedload of great shows and movies for you to cuddle up with. Whether you're on your own, with the family, your significant other, or your little pooch, make the most of this weekend by relaxing in front of the box with the best TV choices.
While you are at it, why not pair your TV viewing with a bottle of Casillero del Diablo. Be that wine legend, and pick up a bottle for the ultimate Valentine's weekend in (even if it's just you and your bottle of vino for one).
Friday
'It's A Sin'
Channel 4, 9 pm
Kick your weekend off in style with a throwback to the '80s. Olly Alexander from Years & Years leads a cracking cast which includes Stephen Fry and Neil Patrick Harris. If you haven't already been tuning into 'It's a Sin', well then why not catch up via the Channel 4 app. Go on, there's only five episodes.
'The Zookeepers Wife'
RTÉ 2, 9.30 pm
If old-time war movie dramas and anything to do with animals is your thing, then this is the perfect Friday night movie to plonk yourself in front of. Starring Jessica Chastain and Daniel Brühl, 'The Zookeeper's Wife' follows the story of two zoo owners who cleverly adapt to the war which is wreaking havoc across Europe.
'The Late Late Show'
RTÉ One, 9.35 pm
Now if there's one Irish staple which you can be sure everyone is tuning into on a Friday night, it's the legendary chat show. Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters made an appearance on last week's 'Late Late Show', and so we have high expectations as to who Ryan Tubridy has in store for us this week.
'Villains'
Sky Cinema Premiere, 9.45 pm
You look like you're a sucker for a movie with a bit of everything - and that's exactly what 'Villains' is for. The comedy-turned-horror-turned-drama stars Bill Skarsgård and Maika Monroe as two amateur crooks who are about to meet two other people who are even worse than anything they ever expected. Absolutely daft, while being surprisingly warm and fuzzy, you can pair your viewing with Casillero del Diablo's Merlot for an extra-special night in.
'The Graham Norton Show'
BBC One, 11.15 pm
After you've watched all of these, then it's time to turn over for our weekly catch-up with our very own Graham Norton. So why not pop open a bottle of the reliable Cabernet Sauvignon Casillero del Diablo and join Graham as he has fun with Sienna Miller, Daniel Kaluuya, Mayim Bialik, and musical guest Arlo Parks. A fruity wine paired with a cheesy night in with Graham? Perfection.
Saturday
The Six Nations
Virgin Media One, from 1.30 pm
At last, our weekends stuffed full of nail-biting rugby watching are back. After kicking off last weekend, the return of the Six Nations for its second week has three more thrilling games for rugby fans. Taking to the pitch today are England and Italy at 2.15 pm, with Scotland and Wales kicking off at 4.45 pm.
'The Masked Singer' Final
Virgin Media One, 7.30 pm
We really cannot believe that the final of 'The Masked Singer' is here already. What reality TV are we going to fill this void with from now on? We've been invested since day one when Sophie Ellis Bextor (!!!) first got eliminated, and this weekend we'll be pairing our viewing session with a bottle of Casillero del Diablo's Reserva Rose - fresh, fruity, with just a hint of nuts.
'Mulholland Drive'
TG4, 9.30 pm
Often regarded as one of director David Lynch's finest work, 'Mulholland Drive' is the perfect movie for those who want to indulge in a very alternative romantic movie for their Valentine's weekend. Starring Naomi Watts and Justin Theroux, the surreal thriller is based on the famous Californian road and includes the story of a fresh off the boat aspiring Hollywood actress who helps unravel the case of a friend's accident.
'The Tommy Tiernan Show'
RTÉ One, 9.35 pm
If there is only one chat show you cast your eyes on this weekend, then make it 'The Tommy Tiernan' show. The comedian has totally revolutionised the chat show format, and even though it's in its fifth season, we're still intrigued each week. Who will be his three mystery guests this week? Don't ask us, sure even Tommy doesn't know.
'Sliding Doors'
BBC One, 11.20 pm
If you're looking for a "what if?" type of movie, then Gwyneth Paltrow has you covered in 'Sliding Doors'. The romantic comedy follows two different lives of her character, Helen, from the moment she gets fired from her job in London. What happens if she misses the next Underground train - and how much of a difference can this seemingly minor occurrence have on her life? Quite a lot, it turns out. While you're at it, slide on open a bottle of Casillero del Diablo's Pinot Grigio to make it a crisp, yet classic, movie experience.
Sunday
The Six Nations - Ireland v France
Virgin Media One, 2 pm
It's time for the main event this Sunday afternoon (and yes, we also mean it's Valentine's Day - so make sure you've made that romantic breakfast in bed, dished out the chocolates, and presented those dozen roses before sitting down for this). Ireland's second game of the season kicks off at 3 pm.
'Valentine's Day'
Sky Cinema Drama, 5.40 pm
For the day that's in it, you might as well just lean fully into the cheesiness that is Valentine's weekend. Boasting an ensemble cast with the likes of Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift, and many more, 'Valentine's Day' is all kinds of romantic, corny, and surprisingly hilarious.
'Dancing on Ice'
Virgin Media One, 6 pm
This week's theme on the ice-skating extravaganza is "The Greatest Love Stories On Ice"... Er, how many are there, exactly? We're sure there will be more than a few surprises in store for us as the remaining celebrities and their professional partners battle to stay in the competition. Plus, Rita Ora will be performing her new single 'Bang Bang'.
'The Great'
Channel 4, 9 pm
A TV series that certainly lives up to its name, it's the comedy/drama series that everyone has been raving about. Featuring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult (who have both received Golden Globe nominations for their roles in the satire, mind you), star as Catherine The Great and her husband Emperor Peter "Huzzah!" of Russia. Episode seven sees an outbreak of Smallpox wreak havoc.
'The Bodyguard'
RTÉ 2, 9 pm
Yes, we've saved the best for last, thank you for waiting. If you are looking for the cream of the crop this Valentine's weekend, the one title that'll make you swoon, then look no further than 'The Bodyguard'. Sure, the Whitney Houston romance classic might have been absolutely trashed by critics, but damn that soundtrack is just as fresh as drinking some of Casillero del Diablo's Sauvignon Blanc. All together now: "And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will always, love youuuuuuuuuu!"
Be sure to make the most of your Valentine's weekend and own your night with a bottle from Casillero del Diablo's vast range of wines - so unique that they are protected by the Devil himself!
Enjoy alcohol responsibly.
