It is the most expensive TV show ever made and has garnered much critical acclaim as well as plenty of accolades, but one thing we were never fully sure of was whether the person of whom Netflix's The Crown was about was actually a fan, however, turns out Queen Elizabeth enjoys the show.
A senior royal source told the Daily Express that the Monarch was encouraged to watch the series by her son and daughter-in-law, the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
The source said: "Edward and Sophie love The Crown. It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film. They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatised."
The show, which stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith, follows the early years of the Queen's life, with each season representing a decade of her reign. Filming for season two has recently finished and will follow the Queen's life from 1955 and 1964.
