We all remember The Walshes don't we? That new comedy series from Father Ted writer Graham Linehan last year that everybody flipped out over because it wasn't Father Ted?
Well yeah, it's been cancelled by the BBC after just three episodes. Which really is a pity as we thought that while it got off to a rough start, it definitely had potential, particularly that deadly Irish mammy Carmel.
Graham Linehan, who is also behind hit comedies Black Books and The IT Crowd, has taken to Twitter this afternoon to voice his frustration...
Ok, now we've solved the problems in the Middle east, let's talk about BBC2 cancelling The Walshes....

I didn't want to spam y'all with multiple tweets, so I favourited all the nice things people have been saying over the last few days

Here it is. It goes on for a few pages https://t.co/iEJdVdRBUS #thewalshes

So that's the reaction from the people who actually saw the show.

This is a show BBC2 cancelled after giving it zero publicity. They put the 3 episodes on, late, and then cancelled it.
— Graham Linehan (@Glinner) January 22, 2015
So my question is, why was it put on at all? They couldn't have expected higher figures from a 3-ep season with no publicity behind it?
— Graham Linehan (@Glinner) January 22, 2015
Also, did anyone beyond the (lovely, committed) commissioners actually watch the show?
— Graham Linehan (@Glinner) January 22, 2015
I just don't get it.
— Graham Linehan (@Glinner) January 22, 2015
Phew! We don't either Grahamo!
It deserved a chance, it's not like Linehan doesn't have a decent track record. Maybe another channel will pick it up? Here's hoping.
