'The Sinner' is returning for its second season shortly and while there's a different story and a new cast (mostly) it looks like it could be just as good, if not better than the first.

It sees Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) return to his hometown to assess a disturbing new crime: an 11-year-old boy's (Elisha Henig) horrific double-homicide of his parents, and as was the case with Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel) in season one, there is no clear motive... at first.

Jessica Biel will not be appearing in the new season but she is staying on as executive producer.

Carrie Coon ('The Leftovers') also stars as Vera who is described as "a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle." Coon told EW of her character: "Dark and disturbing is my bread and butter. Season 1 sold it for me. I loved the idea of a whydunit instead of a whodunit. It’s just good old-fashioned fun."

There's nothing fun about this trailer below however.

The Sinner season 2 is set to premiere on the USA Network on August 1st and hopefully not too much later on Netflix here.
