Simon Bird and Joe Thomas have been pretty busy working on their own comedy projects over the past few years. The last time we saw them on screen together they were arriving home from their Inbetweeners holiday in Malia, and now the pair are set to reunite and team up with Dame Edna Everage aka Barry Humphries, for a new comedy series on Sky1.
Chickens tells the tale of three young men, George (Thomas) Cecil (Bird) and Bert (Jonny Sweet), who stay behind with the women when the rest of the lads from their sleepy English village head off to fight in World War I.Needless to say, the village folk don't take too kindly to their perceived 'cowardice', and hilarity ensues. Humphries joins the cast as Mr Amrstrong, the headmaster of a local school."This is a wonderful opportunity for three of the funniest and most talented men in the Northern hemisphere to work with me. I am very proud of my young supporting cast, whose names I cannot remember at the moment..." he said.
The lads have written the new series themselves, and Inbetweeners director Ben Palmer returns to helm the project. You may have spied a pilot on Channel 4 last year, but it was Sky who ultimately snapped the whole thing up.
Catch Chickens on Sky1 later this year.
