The show starring Abel Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp was a certified flop

In somewhat inevitable news, it has been revealed that HBO's 'The Idol' has been cancelled after just one season.

The show, which stars Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) and Lily-Rose Depp, was roundly panned by critics upon its release in June, with many scoffing at its cringey sexy scenes.

Its Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer rating, meanwhile, was just 19%.

Directed by 'Euphoria' creator Sam Levinson (who co-created the show with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim), the 5-part miniseries followed the story of young pop star Jocelyn (Depp) and her relationship with sleazy nightclub owner and cult leader Tedros (Tesfaye).

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it will not get a second season, with HBO Max releasing a statement that read: "The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response.

"After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work."
