Although the first season hasn't yet finished, The Handmaid's Tale is now one of the most talked-about and highly-rated shows on television for 2017.
Based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian novel about a puritanical version of America where women are second-class citizens and falling birthrates threaten humanity's survival, the series has been hailed as disturbingly prescient in the era of the Trump presidency and is likely to be a major player at the Emmy Awards.
Variety has now confirmed that The Handmaid's Tale is getting a second season, which will expand beyond the novel its ending and possibly introduce new characters in the process. However, it's going to be quite some time before the show will reach Ireland - legally, at least.
Hulu has confirmed that there are no immediate plans to introduce the streaming service into the UK or Ireland, but have stated it's part of their "long-term goals." Currently, Hulu is only available in the US and Japan, but have stated previously that both the UK and Ireland are part of their expansion plans.
It's not yet known if The Handmaid's Tale will get a DVD / Blu-Ray release when the first series concludes, but for now, we'll have to wait.
