There's some bad news from the planet Zog
We hope you're sitting down, because we've got some pretty upsetting news for '80s and '90s TV viewers.
'The Den' revival won't be back for a second season. Co-hosts Zig and Zag broke the news on Twitter late last night to their followers, which has caused quite a reaction online.
The popular children's programme, which originally ran from 1986 until 2010 and was hosted by five different Irish presenters, received a revival late last year with Ray D'Arcy returning to the series.
Just the tonic for a year that we won't be forgetting in a hurry, 'The Den' revival proved to be the perfect Sunday evening show for families across the country with its feel-good nature, cracking jokes, surprising special guests, and hilarious pre-recorded sketches. Hell, even Podge managed to make a Christmas appearance.
Zig and Zag, from the planet Zog, posted the news on Twitter. The reason for it not returning was a call from RTÉ bosses: "Well, sad news to report today. We found out from the bosses that #TheDen won't be coming back after all! Thankz to all the old fans and the new ones for tuning in! We had a blast!"
Unsurprisingly, the news of 'The Den' not getting a second season hasn't gone down too well with people on social media. Some have branded RTÉ's decision as a "shockingly bad call", while another said it was "ridiculous".
Ah, that really is disappointing. Sorry to hear it.
Such great fun on a Sunday evening. Can’t think of anything else on TV that we all watched together as a family.— Conor Wilson (@ConorWilson) October 5, 2021
shockingly bad call there, International Francis Brennan day won't be the same this year

That’s ridiculous. It was so good and the one RTÉ show my 4 year old loved. She’d ask every day when are Zig & Zag on again. Strangely enough she wasn’t all that interested in the “let’s go on a humourless heritage trail nature walk guys” style of show RTÉ aims at kids. #TheDen

They're mad. Funniest home-grown content they've had in years, and with such wide appeal.

This was the only show on @rte my six year old watched and he loved it. If it brings joy, you can guarantee RTÉ will cancel it.
