Friday Night Lights may have ended only five years ago, but this summer will mark ten years since the show first premiered on US television.
Set in fictional small-town Dillion, Texas, the show ran for five seasons and follow the lives of the Panthers football team and their coach, Eric Taylor, played by Kyle Chandler. While the show didn't exactly have a huge audience during its initial run, it did build up a sizeable following and was critically acclaimed for its realistic approach to life in Middle America and the issues facing it.
Since it's revival season on television, this year's ATX Festival will see the cast and crew of Friday Night Lights reunite for a special 10-year anniversary reunion, with the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and showrunner Peter Berg all expected to return.
Why's this so important, you might ask? Well, the last time a cast reunited for a small-but-loved TV show, a new series was put into production shortly thereafter. We are, of course, talking about Gilmore Girls and its upcoming return to Netflix. So, is there a Friday Night Lights revival on the cards?
It's hard to say, really. The cast all did reasonably well since the show ended, with Kyle Chandler turning in a brilliant performance in Oscar-nominated drama Carol. Taylor Kitsch, meanwhile, was being prepped for huge things - John Carter, Battleship, etc. - and we all know how they turned out.
The show did end on a pretty decent note, so trying to draw it up again and move it along for a sixth season may not necessarily work. It's eventually going to hit a point where audiences will start getting revival fatigue, what with The X-Files, Twin Peaks and the aforementioned Gilmore Girls revivals already in the works.
What do you think? Would you be up for a Friday Night Lights revival? Let us know in the comments!
