More Homelander antics coming your way
'The Boys' has become a smash hit for Prime Video, and now the darkly comic and brutally violent superhero show has been renewed for a 4th season.
Prime Video confirmed this afternoon Hughie and the gang will be getting a 4th season after the 3rd season smashed viewing records for the streaming service.
With a new episode dropping every Friday until July 8th, 'The Boys' has become essential viewing for TV fans, and the numbers back it up - data from Prime Video reveals that the audience for the show has grown 234% since season one.
Now that's a stat that might even make Billy Butcher smile.
“From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season Three of The Boys, we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder—an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season,” said Vernon Sanders, the head of global television at Amazon Studios.
“The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real.
"We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, and we look forward to bringing more of The Boys to our customers.”
Showrunner Eric Kripke said "speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more."
“We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in."
"Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success," he remarked.
'The Boys' managed to snag a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys in 2021, and while it didn't win, a subversive, ultra-violent show like 'The Boys' being nominated for the biggest prize in television is a sign that the show is a hit outside of its core audiences.
Our review for the first 3 episodes of the new season hailed the show for being as shocking as ever, and new episodes debut on Prime Video every Friday.
