Do you remember Ashlee Simpson from circa the Paris Hilton heyday? Sister of Jessica Simpson, star of MTV reality series ‘Newlyweds’ and ‘The Ashlee Simpson Show’, and singer of cheesy 2000s pop songs such as ‘Pieces of Me’ and ‘Boyfriend’? Well, she’s back on reality TV.
The singer-songwriter and actress essentially retired back in 2008 when she gave birth to her first child, choosing to focus on motherhood and abandon fame. She has been living a private, quiet life in LA since but now, at 33, she is relaunching her career.
This autumn, according to the New York Times, she is releasing a new album (her fourth, if you can believe it), launching a clothing line, and starring in a reality show for E! all at the same time. Well, there’s nothing quite like saturating the media to get everyone to know your name, eh Kardashians?
The series is called ‘Ashlee & Evan’ and will follow Ashlee Simpson’s marriage to Evan Ross, the youngest son of Diana Ross and the late Arne Naess, Jr. (Evan took his mother’s surname). The couple married in 2014, three years after Ashlee split from her first husband, Pete Wentz, from the band ‘Fall Out Boy’.
The family’s decision to pursue reality TV was “born of a desire to broadcast their happiness”, according to Ashlee.
She and her husband are also exec producing the show.
Ross, who sings and acts in the Fox series ‘Star,’ will share top billing on Ashlee Simpson’s new album. The couple has recorded a series of soulful duets and they will release a new track with each episode of the show.
It has been teased that mummy Diana Ross may appear on the reality series.
