Nicola Adams and Katya Jones made history last night

The celebrity dancing competition was a roaring success last night.

The BBC One series has been on our TVs for 16 years, but 2020 has finally been the year that the first 'Strictly' same-sex coupling has been done.

Last night, Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams performed a Quickstep to 'Get Happy' by Ella Fitzgerald. Her partner was professional dancer Katya Jones. And the audience (online) loved it.

After their performance, head judge Shirley Ballas hailed Katya a "genius", saying "this is a partnership I'm really going to enjoy watching. Well done!"

Sadly in the world we live in, there are bound to be some complaints sent to the UK's communications regulator Ofcom - but we're going to celebrate the praise that this same-sex coupling received online only. If you're looking for snide remarks and complaints, you can look elsewhere.

Here are just some of the glowing comments made by viewers of the 'Strictly' same-sex pairing on last night's show.

'Strictly Come Dancing' didn't see any couples depart the show, so tune in to BBC One next Saturday night for the first elimination of the series. Bill Bailey, Max George and many other celebrities will be back at the same time next week.
