This could very well be the beginning of the end of the Making A Murderer saga.
On Monday, Steve Avery's lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, will file a 45-page petition for extensive DNA testing of the evidence that was used to convict him of the murder of Teresa Halbach. Zellner has already said that she believes she has enough evidence to not only free Avery, but also to identify the actual murderer of Halbach.
In a wide-ranging interview with Newsweek, the released petition also pointed to some other pretty damning points for the investigators and, more pointedly, accuses them of planting evidence against Avery. Zellner's petition states that if the unidentified fingerprints taken from Halbach's Rav4 are matched to either Officers Lenk or Colborn, it would provide conclusive evidence that they specifically moved Halbach's Rav4 onto Avery's property for the purposes of framing him.
What's more, Zellner is specifically asking for the blood evidence on Avery to be retested using more modern methods as current technology available can actually date the blood in Halbach's Rav4 and could further prove the theory that Avery was framed by investigators. As Zellner pointed out during her filing, "no guilty person would ever allow such extensive testing to be done."
She also repeated her claims about another suspect in an interview with ABC News, stating that the evidence she's collected thus far "points to one person. And that’s a person that I think was right there the whole time but never investigated. Because Mr. Avery was framed on this case right away."
The Wisconsin Department of Justice will soon rule on Zellner's petition for seeking evidence and haven't given any specific date for when they'll respond.
