There's a new arrival in County Clare

RTÉ has released the trailer for the follow-up to one of the biggest Irish drama series of the year.

The Ahern family will be back for 'Smother' season two, and there's been a teaser released for what fans can expect from the continuation of the crime/thriller.

The first season launched earlier this year to generally positive praise (albeit with a confusing family tree), with Dervla Kirwan starring as family matriarch Val, and her three strong-willed daughters played by Gemma-Leah Devereux, Niamh Walsh, and Seána Kerslake.

As we can see in the 'Smother' season two teaser below, there's a blow-in who has arrived down in Lahinch to shake things up for Val and co. Finn Ahern arrives on the scene, who claims to be her dead ex-husband Denis’ estranged son. A rather unwelcome surprise for the family, will this new arrival break up the family Val has fought so hard to protect? And are there other family secrets that Val has buried along the way?

There has been no release date set for 'Smother' season two, but it is likely to arrive at a similar time to the first season, early next year.

Earlier this week RTÉ announced their slate for their upcoming 2021/2022 season. Lots of new and returning series are on the way, including Dublin crime drama 'Kin' starring Aidan Gillen and Ciarán Hinds. Sally Rooney's 'Conversations with Friends' and the 'Gossip Girl' reboot are also incoming.

In terms of new Saturday night entertainment shows, 'Last Singer Standing' will be hosted by Nicky Byrne, and includes panellists Nadine Coyle, Joey Fatone (from NSYNC) and Samantha Mumba; while 'Angela Scanlon's Ask Me Anything' will see the host ask her guests about literally anything at all.
