The full story will be told

In 2019, four years after leaving the UK to join ISIS in Syria as a 15-year-old, Shamima Begum attempted to return from a Syrian prison camp as a UK citizen but was denied.

Deadline have reported that the BBC have given the go ahead to a documentary film and a 10-part podcast series that will tell the story of Shamima Begum who left the UK for ISIS in Syria along with three friends as a teenager.

Witnessing beheadings among other atrocities, Shamima was left unfazed by the brutality around her in many respects, but reportedly wished to leave due to the corruption and oppression of the extremist group.

On returning to the UK, she campaigned for her entry into the country and, once that was denied, she appealed for her citizenship not to be revoked. Ben Wallace former Security Minister said at the time, "I'm not putting at risk British people's lives to go and look for terrorists or former terrorists in a failed state".

The Independent reported that her own father stated "If she at least admitted she made a mistake then I would feel sorry for her and other people would feel sorry for her, but she does not accept her wrong". In response, Begum expressed her regret for opening her story to the media and remarked that the press were making an example of her.

Both the film and podcast will be created by the team who worked on the telling Sam Sally's similar story in the 'I'm Not A Monster' podcast series about leaving behind a domestic life in the U.S.A and following ISIS to caliphate.

Stay tuned for updates and release information for this untitled film and podcast.
