Although the previous season of Arrested Development was somewhat disappointing, we've got high hopes for the next one.
A report has surfaced online that gives a few plot points for the next season of Arrested Development and, if they're true, it's going to be incredible. According to Mitch Hurwitz, the fifth season will be a murder-mystery and take aim at the likes of Making A Murderer, Serial and The Jinx.
However, this was already in play before Making A Murder became the cultural phenomenon we know it as now. The finale of the fourth season saw Buster Bluth charged with the murder of Lucille Austero, however Hurwitz had no idea just how popular murder mystery documentaries were going to become when it was originally lined up.
Not only that, the whole idea of Lindsay Bluth talking about building a wall between US and Mexico was completely outlandish at the end of Season 4, whereas now Donald Trump's actually trying to make it a reality. Crazy.
As it stands, there's no set air date for the fifth season as negotiations are ongoing with the cast. Because of the delay between the seasons, most of the cast have signed on for other roles which means scheduling is a huge concern.
Jeffrey Tambor, for example, has a leading role in Transparent, an Emmy-winning show for Amazon. Jason Bateman signed on for Zootopia, a Disney animation film and will likely have huge promotional commitments for that. Portia de Rossi, meanwhile, has Scandal whilst Will Arnett has Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 in 2016 and the Lego Batman Movie in 2017.
While a fifth season is a certainty, it remains to be seen how many of the original cast will return. Here's hoping this guy gets a look-in.
