The iconic teen TV series ended 20 years ago

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' is undoubtedly a stalwart of modern television and a series that many people continue to hold dearly to their hearts, despite ending twenty years ago.

With that landmark anniversary on the near horizon (the last episode aired on May 20th 2003), there have been rumblings of a reboot.

However, if you were hoping that Sarah Michelle Gellar might be up for reprising the role that made her a global star, it's bad news.

Gellar, now 45, was 20 when the first series of 'Buffy' was aired in 1997, and said in an interview with SFX magazine that she had no interest in returning as Buffy Summers, the teen girl chosen as slayer of supernatural beings in the town of Sunnydale.

"I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done,” she said. "We wrapped that up."

However, she did say that she would support a reboot. "I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment," she added. "I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power. But like I said, the metaphors of ‘Buffy’ were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent."

Gellar is not completely shying away from supernatural teen dramas, though: her next role is in Paramount+ series 'Wolf Pack', based on the series of books of the same name by Canadian author Edo van Belkom. It debuts later this month on the streaming service.
