Bad news for poor Piers today - it's been announced that CNN have axed his show 'Piers Morgan Live' after three years of broadcasting. Looks like the Americans just don't get his particular style of Britishness. He really should have hammed it up with a few more stutters and stammers - worked for Hugh Grant. Or maybe if he'd been, I don't know - a little less Piers-like?
The former 'America's Got Talent' judge replaced Larry King in the prime time slot back in 2011, and while no official date has been give for his final show, it is thought it will be in March. Morgan and CNN president Jeff Zucker met last week to discuss the future of the programme, although it must have been a pretty short conversation, as they agreed that it should be cancelled. Piers himself described it as being a "painful period" for the show recently in terms of ratings.
He told the New York Times: 'Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarising, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it. That's run its course and Jeff and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me.'
He is still hoping to stay with the network though, and find a show 'better suited' to his skills: 'I'd like to do work - interviews with big celebrities and powerful people - that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff is trying to do with the network.'
Looks like you're not getting rid of him that easily America!
Tom Phillips of Buzzfeed may have the real explanation for why this happened though:
