The duo signed a massive deal to develop Sony's stable of Marvel characters into a TV universe.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the minds behind 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' and 'The Lego Movie', are headed to TV for the forseeable future.
Per THR, the duo are set to develop a Marvel TV Universe based on Sony's stock of Marvel characters. These include Spider-Man, Morbius The Living Vampire, the Sinister Six, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Kraven the Hunter, and Silk. Phil Lord and Chris Miller produced the Oscar-winning 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse', whilst Lord wrote the screenplay with Rodney Rothman.
Sony has been angling to get their own Marvel-verse going for some time now, and with the commercial success of 'Venom' and 'Into The Spider-Verse', it may finally get its wish with Lord and Miller. 'Morbius The Living Vampire' is already in the pipeline as a live-action movie, with Jared Leto currently set to star with 'Life' director Daniel Espinosa behind the camera.
With Disney+ set to release their own TV series based on the likes of Falcon, the Winter Soldier, Wanda Maximoff and Vision, the TV landscape is about to be flooded with Marvel properties. Interestingly, all this comes barely six months after the mass cancellation of Netflix's Marvel offerings, such as 'Daredevil', 'The Punisher' and 'Luke Cage'. In the case of these characters, there's at least a four-year waiting period from when they'll return to screens owing to complex licensing arrangements between Disney and Netflix.
