Thomas Shelby is a bit of a performer it turns out
The BBC TV series is being turned into an all-dancing musical theatre show.
BBC's hit show 'Peaky Blinders' will make its theatrical show debut later this year off the back of the end of the successful TV series.
The theatre performance will be called 'Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby' and will open on September 27 at Birmingham Hippodrome. Following its debut, there will be dates added for a London show performance with other UK dates also expected to be added. There's been no mention of Irish dates so far - but watch this space in case.
The series, which stars Cillian Murphy in the central role of Thomas Shelby, has proven to be incredibly popular amongst audiences since it premiered in 2013. Gritty and dramatic, the series is set in Birmingham after World War I and follows a criminal gang and their dealings. So, how will this dark and heavy series translate into the theatrical stage?
The 'Peaky Blinders' theatrical show will feature a cast of 20, by screenwriter Steven Knight, who also created the TV series. It will be adapted for the stage in collaboration with Rambert dance company and will feature a live band that will play "specially-commissioned music".
Rambert's artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer said of the production: "It's such an exciting opportunity as a choreographer to tell these stories and recreate these characters through dance."
In what is promised to be an "uplifting and inspiring" show, Knight said of his upcoming project: "This is dance for people who don't usually watch dance and what I've written has been transformed into something startling by consummate dancers and choreographers."
The sixth and final season of 'Peaky Blinders' is expected to hit the BBC later this year, with a release date of early 2022 attached to it.
