And so there were four...
Series writer and co-executive producer of 'Game of Thrones' Bryan Cogman has said that he is "done with Westeros."
One of five new potential 'Game of Thrones' spin-offs has been burned to smithereens, with HBO deciding "to go a different way." So says Cogman, who was busy working on a prequel series based in the world of George R. R. Martin's fantasy saga.
Cogman, who has lended his hand to episodes such as last Sunday's 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', recently shed light on how his potential new spin-off series has been going. Unfortunately, the spin-off is dead in the water (and no, it won't be coming back to life). He said the series "is not happening and will not happen. HBO decided to go a different way. I am done with Westeros. I’ll certainly miss it, but I’m excited to go out on my own and try to be in the captain’s chair of my own projects, armed with everything I’ve learned."
Cogman has enjoyed quite an epic 'Game of Thrones' journey himself, not unlike the characters from the show. Finishing up as one of the core writers of the series, as well as a co-executive producer, Cogman first started off proceedings as an assistant to creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
No details have been revealed as to exactly what Colman's series would have focused on, however. One of the spin-offs that is currently in very active development is set to record a pilot episode for HBO very soon (if it hasn't been shot already). Starring star Naomi Watts as the lead character, the spin-off will chronicle "the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know."
