'Derry Girls' creator Lisa McGee is behind the thriller series

Anyone eager to see 'Normal People' star Paul Mescal on the telly again will be delighted about this.

Paul Mescal is due to next star in 'The Deceived'. 'Derry Girls' creator Lisa McGee and writer and actor Tobias Beer are behind the show.

The thriller-drama has been described as "a compelling, sinister narrative of lust, manipulation and betrayal."

The four-part series will air on Channel 5 in the UK and Virgin Media One in Ireland later this year.

Channel 5 has just dropped a trailer for it.

'The Deceived' was filmed in Belfast and Cambridge in the U.K.

It tells the story of Ophelia (played by newcomer Emily Reid), a student who "falls in love with her timelessly attractive and charismatic, but married, college lecturer, Dr Michael Callaghan (Emmet J. Scanlan - 'Peaky Blinders', 'The Fall')".

Soon Ophelia becomes "trapped in a world where she can no longer trust her own mind".

Mescal plays Sean, who tries to help Ophelia put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Catherine Walker, Eleanor Methven ('Derry Girls') and Ian McElhinney ('Game of Thrones') also star in the series.

'The Deceived' premieres later this year. There is no exact release date just yet.
