One of the more bizarre rumours about Game of Thrones season 7 is that UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is to have a cameo.
The story first broke over the weekend with most people being skeptical but as the week has gone on it looks like the rumour might be true.
While there has been no official word from either McGregor or HBO , UFC President Dana White confirmed on Fox Sports Live earlier in the week that McGregor would be appearing in the show's seventh season.
“I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show,” White says in the interview, adding “And I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great.”
Furthermore, Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall are quoting a source who has given specifics as to the role McGregor would be playing.
So is McGegor with House Stark? Or Lannister even? No, actually. According to Watchers on the Wall's source, McGregor will be a supporter of Euron Greyjoy. The cameo role is quite a small one which will see McGregor as a pirate on Greyjoy's ship, Silence. The source also says that it is a non speaking part so McGregor's acting ability won't be put to the test.
While House Greyjoy is hardly the most exciting place for McGregor to show up, we can totally see him as a pirate and it feels like the cameo won't be too much of a distraction which would have been a primary concern for Game of Thrones fans.
