"We promise to do everything we can to give the show the send-off it deserves."

It's been revealed that after being on the air for 37 years, 'Neighbours' is drawing to a close.

Signs that 'Neighbours' could be approaching its conclusion first emerged last month when it was revealed that Channel 5 will no longer be airing the soap after this coming summer.

New funding options were sought but unfortunately, couldn't be found.

A spokesperson for the production company Fremantle said: "It is with sadness that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast, we are confirming that 'Neighbours' will cease production in the summer.

"Following the loss of a key broadcast partner in the UK, and despite a search for alternative funding, we currently have no option but to rest the show."

The statement continues: "To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team.

"We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating 'Neighbours'.

Channel 5 bosses also confirmed the show would be ending.

They released a statement saying: "'Neighbours' will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.

"It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.

"We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of 'Neighbours' across the years."

'Neighbours' debuted in 1985 and has aired over 8700 episodes.

It moved to Channel 5 in 2008 where it became a crucial part of the daytime schedule.

'Neighbours' alumni include Jesse Spencer, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Hemsworth, and Guy Pearce; there was also Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, and, of course, Kylie Minogue.

According to reports, the final episode of the soap will air in August.
