That Mrs Brown's Boy's win though...

The 2020 National Television Awards took place last night. So here's all you need to know.

The NTAs had a new host in David Walliams, who kicked off the night with quite an entrance at London's 02 Arena, where the ceremony was held. The evening marked the 25th anniversary of the National Television Awards.

It was a good night for the Irish as 'Peaky Blinders', which is full of Irish cast members, took home the prize for Best Drama.

Still better its star Cillian Murphy won for Best Drama performance.

Murphy sent his reaction to the win in a pre-recorded message, saying he felt "very honoured and very humbled" to win. He said the award confirmed to him that Peaky Blinders fans "are the best in the world".

There was another win for the Irish, though maybe not so much one you'd want to write home about. 'Mrs Brown's Boys' won for Best Comedy. It beat 'Fleabag', 'Derry Girls', 'Sex Education' and 'After Life' to win the award.

It's wins like these that reflects the fact that the National Television Awards are voted for by the public... Still, on the bright side, the victory inspired some hilarious Twitter reactions.

One of the winners people were happy about was Little Mix's Jesy Nelson. She won Best Factual Programme for her documentary 'Odd One Out'.

Meanwhile Ant and Dec took home the Best TV Presenter award for the 19th year in a row. There were also wins for 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Emmerdale' and 'This Morning'.

Michael Palin earned a Special Recognition Award, which he dedicated to his late friend and fellow 'Monty Python' member Terry Jones.

He received a standing ovation for his speech in which he said: "Anyone who knows or has worked with Terry will have been infected with his infectious and extraordinary enthusiasm.

"Terry always worked to get something right. He had a certain skill in being very ruthless but also charming at the same time."
