Mrs Brown's Boys, Brendan O'Carroll's much loved Irish Mammy creation, once again ruled the opposition on British television as the show blew away competitors.

The BBC series, which is filmed in Scotland, features O'Carroll as the titular Mrs Brown, and various friends and family in different roles. Yesterday, Christmas Day, it scored a huge 7.61 million viewers for the British station making it the most watched show on Christmas Day. Hugely impressive stuff - fair play to O'Carroll and his team, who also ruled the Irish box-office this year with Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie.

Elsewhere, another BBC show Eastenders soundly beat ITV’s Coronation Street. The former drawing 7.55 million viewers compared to 6.62 million for Coronation Street. While Doctor Who bested Downton Abbey, with the sci-fi show drawing 6.34 million compared to Downton's 5.84 million.

Mrs Brown's Boys is currently on tour, while the BBC must surely be looking to extend their relationship with the Irish comedian.
