Modern Family, if you can believe it, will hit ten seasons - 10, count them - with its next season.
That, according to showrunnner Steve Levitan in an interview with THR, is the perfect place to end the long-running sitcom. "Our plan is to end it at 10. If we can leave with most of our audience wanting more, I think that’s the right way to do it."
While that's all well and good, there's also the fact that the cast of the show will have to renegotiate their contracts - which'll be extremely expensive for the TV studio to pay out on, especially with such a large ensemble cast like Modern Family's.
Modern Family isn't the only season to finish out next season, either. According to Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory will also close out its run next season, however the spinoff series for that - Young Sheldon - is beginning to pick up steam. As for a spinoff for Modern Family, Levitan says there's some "loose ideas" floating around for the finale to lead into a spinoff, but cautioned that it's "just a little over a year and a half from now. We’ve got time to think about that."
