Obstruction of justice? Ten years in the Iso-Cubes.

Although 'Dredd' wasn't a commercial success when it first hit cinemas, it's become one of those rare movies in the modern age that's an honest-to-goodness cult hit.

We even wrote an opinion piece a few years ago about how it was a perfect launchpad for a streaming series on Netflix et al, and sure enough, 'Judge Dredd: Mega-City One' was announced. The TV series was to be set in the world of the movie, but as you can imagine, things are less than adequate at the moment for a new TV series.

In a recent interview picked up by RadioTimes, Rebellion Developments CEO Jason Kingsley explained the situation. "We’ve got the rights back so we can do it, we’ve just got to get rid of this virus thing that’s going on at the moment, and then hopefully things can kick off in all sorts of different areas of making film and TV, it’s just– it’s all very messed up at the moment for everybody."

Although scripts have been written for the series, the pandemic has meant that production can't go ahead, not to mention funding for the show hasn't yet been secured either. On top of that, no deal has yet been worked out with the streaming services, however, Kingsley said that the discussions are "quite a long way down the road" with some of them.

Given the cult status of 'Dredd' and, indeed, Judge Dredd and 2000AD, this feels like it's ripe and primed for something special. Kingsley also stated that he's keen to have Karl Urban feature in some shape or form as Dredd, and is even holding out hope for Sylvester Stallone to feature in some fashion, too.

Less said about Stallone's 'Judge Dredd' movie, the better.
