Acclaimed British actress and comedian Maureen Lipman is on her way to the cobbles and is set to play quite the character.
Lipman, known for roles in the likes of 'The Pianist', 'Educating Rita; and 'Oklahoma' will be taking on the role of Tyrone Dobbs' grandmother Evelyn, who arrives on the street in the wake of his recent mother's death.
It's not long before this "outspoken battleaxe", according to ITV, is "ruling the roost" at number 9, and she soon ruffles her neighbours' feathers too.
'Coronation Street' producer Iain MacLeod said: "I am beyond thrilled that we are introducing such a great new character, played by someone of Maureen’s pedigree.
"Evelyn is eye-wateringly withering and will add a fresh dollop of northern humour to the show as she turns Tyrone and Fiz’s lives upside down."
Most recently, Lipman has had roles in TV shows like 'Plebs' and 'Ladies of Letters', while she has appeared in over 25 West End productions.
This actually isn't Lipman's first appearance in the soap, the actress had a brief role in 2002 as snooty landlady Lillian Spencer.
Lipman is set to arrive on the cobbles in September.
