Ever since it was first announced last year, every announcement since then has just added more and more hype for True Detective's third season.
Jeremy Saulnier, who directed the excellent Green Room, is on board to direct the entire season with Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali and Fantastic Beasts alum Carmen Ejogo playing the two leads and Nic Pizzolatto returning to script. On top of this, it's now confirmed that Mamie Gummer of The Good Wife will be joining the cast as the young mother at the centre of the crime being investigated.
It's a bit of a family reunion on HBO, with Gummer's mother - Meryl Streep - joining the cast of Big Little Lies' second season as Alexander Skarsgard's on-screen mother. There's no airdate confirmed for True Detective's third season beyond late 2019, but expect this to be one of the most talked-about TV series of the year when it arrives on screens.
