It's been one of the most popular shows in BBC's recent history and a lot of that is down to Idris Elba's work as DCI John Luther.

The hard-boiled detective series ran from 2010 up until 2015, with many hailing it as Elba's best work. For quite some time, there's been talk of a film or some kind of continuation of the series and now, finally, there appears to be something in the way of confirmation.

In a recent Q&A session on his Twitter, Elba responded to a question about the show's future. Take a look.

It might be early talk, but it's definitely exciting to see this. Elba's dance-card is filling up pretty quickly at the moment. As well as a fantastic turn in Star Trek Beyond, Elba also has the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower on the way.

Elba had previously stated in a Reddit AMA two years ago that the focus for Luther was "to try and make a film from it," but now that no longer seems to be the case. There's been nothing in the way of official confirmation from the BBC as of yet, but it's definitely a good sign.

Here's hoping it happens sooner rather than later.
