The London Olympics Opening ceremony was watched by a record number of viewers this year, as an estimated 27 million people (the highest in 14 years) tuned into the BBC's coverage of the event.
Oscar winning director of Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting, Danny Boyle directed the opening ceremony which was widely well-received by the public - although twitter's commentary was pretty hilarious at points. It did go on for a bit long, and was hilariously random; but still, as soon as the fireworks went towards the end you could tell where the majority of the money was spent. And that James Bond/The actual Queen bit was pretty damn cool.
The coverage is ongoing on the BBC and indeed RTE 2 - who are obviously featuring more of the Irish athletes in action.
