The Aussie soap finally comes to an end
Last March we got the sad news that long-running Australian soap 'Neighbours' will be coming to an end after 37 years on screen.
The show, which focuses on the cul-de-sac community around Ramsay Street, is famous for kickstarting the careers of many famous Australian actors. Margot Robbie, Guy Pierce, Russel Crowe and Chris Hemsworth all got their breaks on the soap.
Two other big names who kickstarted their career on the show are Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue. Minogue played Charlene Mitchell and Donovan played Scott Robinson. The two character's eventually got married and their wedding episode attracted almost 20 million viewers in the UK alone.
The official 'Neighbours' Twitter account tweeted over the weekend, "Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them."
Since leaving the show, Minogue has become the highest-selling Australian female artist, selling over 80 millions records worldwide throughout her career. She has also picked up a Grammy award and three Brit awards.
Donovan also gained international success in his music career. He sold millions of records worldwide and topped the chart with hits like 'Too Many Broken Hearts', 'Especially For You' and 'Any Dream Will Do'. He also picked up a Laurence Olivier award nomination for his role in 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat'.
Donovan said on the show's cancellation: "My daughter is currently in it, my dad was in it. I think we should be grateful for what it's given Australia, it's given actors, producers, writers, directors."
'Neighbours' debuted in 1985 and has aired over 8700 episodes. Production on the show will finally cease in June.
