Best known as the long-suffering husband of Hyacinth Bucket in 'Keeping Up Appearances', Swift was 82.

English character actor Clive Swift, best known for his role in 'Keeping Up Appearances', has passed away at the age of 82.

Swift began acting in the '60s, and had roles in various BBC programmes such as 'Doctor Who' and 'The Barchester Chronicles', and starred in movies such as John Boorman's 'Excalibur' and David Lean's 'A Passage To India'.

Undoubtedly, Swift's most recognisable role was as Richard Bucket, the long-suffering husband of Hyacinth Bucket, played by Dame Patricia Routledge. Swift played the role for over six years. In total, 44 episodes were made and became BBC's most exported television programme throughout the '90s.
