A limited TV series is underway
'The Comeback Girl' is being developed by Showtime and will see the rising star lead her own TV series as the stand-up comic.
Kathryn Hahn's star is rising ever higher, and her next role could be her biggest yet. Variety reports that the actor will play Joan Rivers in an upcoming limited TV series that is in development by Showtime and produced by Warner Bros.
'The Comeback Girl' is believed to be set during the late '80s following the cancellation of 'The Late Show starring Joan Rivers'. The comedian was the first woman to host a late-night talk show, but her reign was short-lived as she was replaced a year later.
Rivers faced stiff competition from her former colleague's rival talk show 'The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson', which was where Rivers began her TV career. However, the two had a bitter falling out.
The TV series is expected to include this storyline, as well as the devastating moment her late husband Edgar Rosenberg comitted suicide. Rivers died in September 2014 at the age of 81, and right up until her death she was seen as a comic icon for her many years in the world of stand-up comedy.
The early description for Kathryn Hahn as Joan Rivers in 'The Comeback Girl' TV series is as follows: "Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne…and then it all fell apart. 'The Comeback Girl' is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon."
Kathryn Hahn has enjoyed a steady rise in the realm of TV and film over the years, with her most recent role in Disney+'s 'WandaVision' further boosting her credibility as a great comedic and dramatic artist. Over the years, she has had roles in 'Transparent', 'Parks and Recreation', 'Girls', 'Wanderlust' and also lent her voice to Sony's 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'.
Her next appearances on screen will be in Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd's upcoming Apple TV+ series 'The Shrink Next Door' and the highly anticipated whodunnit film sequel, 'Knives Out 2'.
