When actors, comedians and other stars are selling their latest show, movie or other product, they tend to play it up, are all smiles, and work hard to sell the thing. It’s refreshing to see a celebrity tell it like it is, and that’s just what Karl Pilkington, renowned for ‘An Idiot Abroad’, did on a recent interview with ‘This Morning’.
Chatting with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Pilkington was promoting his new series ‘Sick of It’ and described it as: “easy to watch. I mean, what else do you want? It is what it is.
“The main thing I wanted to come on here to say is if you think it’s like the other stuff I’ve done, don’t be thinking that because it’s totally different. So if you didn’t like the other stuff… then this might be for you. So just give it a go.
“There’s no point in me sat here telling everyone it’s brilliant because we live in a world where people will let you know that it isn’t.”
The comedian had the hosts in stitches as he discussed coming out of retirement for the show (“It was just something to do”) and commented about ‘This Morning’s crazy interviews, including a recent one with a guest who could lift a can of beans with her vagina.
He said: “For me, because I’d seen stuff like that before, I was just sat there thinking, ‘Oh I know that brand of beans.’ It was like product placement to me, like a mad advert to sell beans. I’ve seen that much mad stuff!”
He concludes his segment with one last heart on his sleeve promo for the show: “It’s alright. There’s a lot of good telly out there.”
Pilkington won over not only Holly and Philip, but also viewers at home:
