The controversial life of Travis Kalanick is entering production
The entrepreneur who created the taxi app Uber will be played by the Hollywood actor.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play entrepreneur Travis Kalanick, the co-founder and first CEO of ride sharing app Uber.
The CEO was effectively removed from the company during a boardroom coup in 2017. He was shrouded in controversy, from not allowing taxi drivers to be tipped, and his knowledge of sexual allegations happening with customers of the app.
According to Variety, the series "will depict the roller-coaster ride of the upstart transportation company, embodying the highs and lows of Silicon Valley".
The series will be the first entry in an anthology creation called 'Super Pumped', which will focus on a different person or story which shook the business world. The series will be produced for Showtime.
'Billions' creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien will helm the series alongside Beth Schacter. Amy Israel, executive vice president of scripted programming at Showtime said: "Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a remarkably intelligent and charismatic actor, embodying charm with an unpredictable edge.
"We are beyond excited to see what he will bring to the role of Travis Kalanick, the hyper-brilliant and controversial CEO whose ambition and reckless drive threatened the very enterprise he was determined to build."
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who launched his own creative and collaborative platform Hit Record in 2007, tweeted his involvement recently. He polarised his role as Kalanick with his other new role in the upcoming Apple comedy series 'Mr. Corman'.
'Mr. Corman' will be a 10-episode series, created, directed, and starring the '500 Days of Summer' actor, which will premiere this August. Last time we saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt on our screens was in Netflix's 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'.
