BBC has so far refused to confirm or deny the story.
Although comedian John Bishop has just joined the cast of BBC's long-running sci-fi series, it's looking like he won't be working alongside Jodie Whittaker for much longer.
The Mirror UK (via Deadline) is reporting that Whittaker, who has been in the role of Doctor Who since 2017, is apparently set to exit the show by the end of the current season. This would generally keep with tradition on the show, as both Matt Smith, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi were both on the show for three seasons before they left.
Per the report, news of Whittaker's departure is "all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration. Her departure is top secret but at some point over the coming months the arrival of the 14th Doctor will need to be filmed."
So far, no names have been mentioned as a possible replacement. Whittaker made history when she became the first woman to take on the role, originated in 1963, with the transition to a new actor for each iteration of the Doctor called "regeneration". So far, the series has gone through 13 actors in the role.
Thus far, the BBC has refused to confirm or deny the rumours, simply stating that they "won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show."
