To be fair, it's a very relevant movie.
'Contagion' is a movie that's been on people's minds for quite a while now, mainly because there are certain parallels between the current situation and the one displayed in the movie.
First released in 2011, the movie starred Matt Damon, Marion Cottilard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Laurence Fishburne. Although it didn't do huge box office figures, the movie has since skyrocketed in popularity and has become the second most-watched movie in the online library of Warner Bros.
As frightening as 'Contagion' is, it's worth pointing out that things are nowhere near as dire as they were in the movie, and that the writer of the movie even did an interview saying the same thing. Anyway, ITV went ahead and aired 'Contagion' last night and, wouldn't you know it, people didn't like it.
It's been reported that close to 160 complaints were lodged with Ofcom following the movie's screening. The movie sees the world gripped in a state of fear as the spread of a deadly virus begins to wipe out populations and collapse society as we know it. The movie aired last night at 9PM on ITV2, and given how TV schedules have been disrupted by everything, odds are they needed to fill the schedule with something.
Funnily enough, director Steven Soderbergh based the movie on the reaction to SARS and Swine Flu, and simply ratcheted up the consequences to the worst possible scenario.
Of course, there are two ways to look at this - either the movie gets people to take it seriously and wake up to the realities of the situation, or they can complain because the TV - which has a remote and allows them to watch literally anything else - showed something they didn't like.
