"We are this close to making a film"
The award-winning drama series has the perfect formula for one final big-screen conclusion.
After five incredible seasons (and only 20 episodes) of Idris Elba as DCI John Luther, it is believed that the star of the series is very keen to return to the character. While a sixth season of the psychological drama is certainly off the cards, however, a 'Luther' movie might see the light of day.
Created by author and screenwriter Neil Cross, the series is dark, moody, and all kinds of gripping. And it has the makings of a fantastic thriller in the cinema theatres.
Speaking during a recent press junket for season three of his Sky comedy 'In The Long Run', where he stars opposite Bill Bailey, Elba said that there were currently no "formal plans" for another series, but he is "this close" to securing a potentially bigger deal.
He said: "I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see 'Luther' come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of 'Luther'."
A 'Luther' movie could be a nice offshoot for the gripping BBC series. Since securing the central role in the series which began back in 2010, Elba has since become a big name in Hollywood and no doubt would rather make a 'Luther' movie than a new series.
Having starred in all three 'Thor' movies (and 'Infinity War') since then, as well as that nefarious 'Cats', the actor is set to make another caped crusader debut in next year's 'Suicide Squad' rehash. Originally cast as Will Smith's replacement for Deadshot, the studio instead decided to have him portray an unnamed character instead.
