That's all set to change, however, as Hulu will expand internationally from 2019. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news, explaining that the expansion will begin once Disney's merger with Fox is finished. Currently, Hulu has original programming like 'The Handmaid's Tale', 'Castle Rock', 'The First' and the upcoming 'Veronica Mars' reboot series.
Currently, 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'The First' are broadcast over here via RTE and Channel 4. As they're original programming for Hulu, they'll instead be made immediately available on the service rather than being delayed. What's more interesting, however, is Hulu's library of content, which could potentially rival Netflix's.
In the US, Hulu has every episode of 'South Park' and distributes programmes for the likes of E!, CBS, AMC, Syfy, as well as a massive range of movies and other classic TV shows. What will decide if some or all of these transfer is local broadcasting agreements, but Hulu's original programming will transfer easily.
Streaming services in the US are slowly expanding out to Europe, with the likes of Amazon Prime now available in Ireland and the UK. Disney's own streaming service, Disney+, is already cooking up original content with the likes of 'The Mandalorian' and the just-announced 'Loki' TV series with Tom Hiddleston.
No date has been set for Hulu's expansion as of yet, but expect to see more news on this in the coming months.
