The song was famously performed by Liam Clancy of the folk duo, the Clancy Brothers.
Last night's 'Late Late Show' was one for the record books.
Due to the measures enacted by the government, no audience were present during the recording of the show, but it was historic in other ways. In the show's 58-year history, no woman has ever hosted the show from start to finish.
However, with Ryan Tubridy out for the night following a persistent cough, Miriam O'Callaghan stepped into the chair to host last night's show on short notice. One highlight of the night, as well as that bit of glass ceiling-shattering, came with Hozier performing a few songs.
Among them was 'The Parting Glass', traditionally a Scottish song but made famous here in Ireland by folk troubadour Liam Clancy. Before the song began, Miriam O'Callaghan offered up a dedication to the health worker who passed away, giving the song a further depth of feeling.
It's an incredible performance by Hozier, and a fitting song. Take a look.
